Privacy Policy

The short version

Rewind is a private journal. Your entries, moods, photos, tags, the people you name, your time-capsule letters, and your settings are stored only on your device. We do not run servers that collect them, we cannot read them, and we never sell them or use them for advertising.

The only data that leaves your device is what is strictly needed to process a purchase, turn your voice into text, or respond when you choose to contact support. The details are below.

What Rewind stores on your device

Everything you create in Rewind is saved locally on your device using your operating system's standard on-device storage. This includes:

• Journal entries, moods, gratitude notes, activity tags, and the names of people you add
• Photos you attach to entries (copied into the app from your photo library)
• Time-capsule letters, any voice notes you record for them, and their unlock dates
• Your name, reminder preferences, saved tag and people libraries, and app settings
• Unsent drafts, starred entries, and your Wrapped history

This information stays on your device unless you personally export or share it. If you delete an entry, erase your data in Settings, or uninstall the app, that information is removed from your device.

Information processed by others when you use certain features

A few features rely on services provided by your app store or by our purchase processor. When you use them, limited information is handled by those companies under their own privacy policies, not by us:

• Purchases and subscriptions. Payments are processed by your app store. We use RevenueCat, Inc. to manage and validate subscriptions. RevenueCat receives a randomly generated app user identifier, your purchase and transaction history, and basic device and app information. It does not receive your journal content. • Voice-to-text. If you dictate an entry, your speech is transcribed using your device's speech-recognition service. On some devices this audio may be sent to Apple to perform the transcription, subject to Apple's privacy policy. Rewind does not keep a separate copy of the audio.
• Support and feedback. If you email us, your email address and the information you choose to include in your message are sent through your email provider and ours. We use that information only to respond, troubleshoot, and improve Rewind. We retain support correspondence only as long as reasonably necessary, subject to any legal recordkeeping obligation. You can request deletion by emailing us.

We do not receive, store, or have access to the contents of your journal through any of these services.

Photos, microphone, and voice notes

Rewind asks for permission to access your photo library only when you add a photo, and for your microphone only when you use voice-to-text or record a voice note for a time capsule. You can decline, and you can change these permissions at any time in your device's Settings.

Photos you add and voice notes you record are stored locally within the app. Voice notes are never uploaded; they are saved as files on your device and are deleted when you delete the letter they belong to.

Notifications

If you turn on the daily reminder, Rewind schedules a local notification on your device. Reminders are generated on-device; we do not operate a push-notification server and do not receive any information when a reminder fires.

Backups and exports

Rewind lets you export a backup of your data as a file or as text so you can save it yourself. Once you export or share a backup, it leaves Rewind's control and is handled by whatever app, service, or location you send it to. You are responsible for keeping your backups safe.

No analytics, tracking, or ads

Rewind contains no third-party advertising, no analytics or usage-tracking SDKs, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking. We do not build a profile of you and we do not ask for permission to track you, because we don't.

Data retention and deletion

Because your journal lives on your device, you control how long it is kept. You can delete individual entries or letters at any time, erase all data from the Settings screen, or remove everything by uninstalling the app. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone by us, since we never had a copy.

Children and families

Rewind is suitable for users of any age, including children under 13. There is no account, no sign-in, no chat, no user-generated content shared with anyone, no advertising, and no analytics. Everything a child writes stays on their own device, and we never see it.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age. We do not ask for an email address, a birthday, a phone number, a location, or contact information. The name you enter is stored on your device only, and we never receive it. The only information that ever leaves the device is described in "Information processed by others when you use certain features" above: a randomly generated identifier and purchase records used to validate a subscription, and, only if voice-to-text is used, audio handled by the device's own speech-recognition service.

A note for parents and guardians: Rewind requires a paid subscription, which is charged to the app store account signed in on the device. If you are setting Rewind up for a child, we recommend you make the purchase yourself and use your platform's family controls, such as Apple's Family Sharing and "Ask to Buy," to manage what can be purchased on the device.

Security

Your data is protected by the security of your own device, including any passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID you have enabled. No method of storage is perfectly secure. Because your journal is stored locally and is not backed up to our servers, a lost, damaged, or reset device may mean lost data unless you have saved your own backup.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top. Significant changes may also be noted in the app. Your continued use of Rewind after an update means you accept the revised policy.
